Circular Knitting Needle Holder

Holder for circular knitting needles

Holder for circular knitting needles

This knitting needle holder works by sliding each needle into a fabric “tunnel” marked with the size of the needle on it. This has made a huge difference in keeping track of my own knitting needles. Instead of searching through my knitting supplies for the right packet holding the needle size and length I need, I just go to my closet and find this holder and I can immediately see what I have available.  As you can see – I have quite a few circular needles!  I basically don’t use straight needles anymore.  The curve of the circular needle just feels better in my hands and I use them even if I am not knitting “in the round”.

I made 2 of these for gifts – one for my oldest daughter and one for my sister-in-law. I hope that they have them filled with their needles by now!

I evidently didn’t take a picture of it (rats!), but I put a pocket in the back that holds a tool that sizes knitting needles. It has different size holes in it which you can poke your needle through to see what size the needle is if it isn’t marked. That way you can slide it into the correct slot of the holder. This was a fun project to make up and I hope to write up an actual tutorial soon.

How did you make the labels for it?

    I love it!
    do you sell?

    Have you done any
Basic instructions or did you use a pattern for these? I truly love the idea! I think the pockets may even be wide enough to slide my straights into like chopsticks to store everyone together in two hanging system. Thanks for helping us all be organized.

Would love a tutorial but I’m going to experiment and make one myself. This is the best idea because the circular needles will be able to flatten out while hanging. Amazing idea! approximately how wide did you make each opening and what are the overall dimensions?

    • Hi Terrie,
The circular knitting needle holder is approximately 8″ wide and 25″ long and there is 1.5″ between each area to hold the needles. Essentially I made a front and back piece and sewed across them together to form the area where the needles lay. I made the front longer at top and sewed velcro on in order to easily hang it from a clothing hanger. I keep all my needles in this in my closet and I never wonder any longer what sizes I have. It really is a great way to organize and it does keep the needles from being so “curly”. Good luck!

This is very clever. Do you sell these? If not I also sew so do you have a pattern to make it?

Where did you get the labels? Please post the pattern.

Thank you so much for posting this. Of all the round needle holders I have been looking at, this is the one that lets the needles flop and be ready to use! I found your details below, thank you again. May I share a medium sized sticker that you may enjoy: “I knit so that I don’t kill anybody.” I have it on a car window and I am sweet and soft spoken… but there are those drivers sometimes!

Love it. Thanks for the share.
